We provide child and adolescent counseling for issues ranging from learning disabilities to behavioral challenges. WHP will work to select the best clinician to meet your child’s needs as our team of seasoned clinicians holds numerous certifications designed to address child behaviors. Our tea makes it a point to be knowledgeable about all evidence based practices to assist our clients.
Adolescence is a particularly difficult stage of life – it has been said that teen behavior would warrant institutionalization if exhibited at any other age – and problems in these years can adversely affect the entire course of your child’s future. Even a teenager from a functional family must grapple with pressure from peers, insecurities about competency, body image ad attractiveness to others, pressures to experiment with drugs, alcohol and sex, and issues involved with the beginning of adult identify formation. An experienced child therapist at WHP knows how to properly relate these causes back to their effects to provide the most effective counseling strategies to modify the behavioral challenge.
INNOVATIVE FAMILY THERAPY
Family therapy is typically called for when your problem involves excessive arguments between family members, or ongoing conflict. In these situations the therapist acts as a neutral mediator and life coach one who can make sure everyone in the family gets heard, an help members understand each other and can teach healthy methods of conflict resolution. Family counseling with a child or young teen is often “parenting training”. Our therapists will structure the sessions in a way that will allow parents to get back in charge of the family unit in a loving but organized method. At other times, individual therapy may be more appropriate for a child, or a combination of individual and family sessions.
Individual therapy is a one-on-one discussion between the therapist and the client who is the person seeking treatment. The two form an alliance, relationship or bond that enables trust and personal growth. Counseling sessions strive to embrace the adage that ‘an ounce of prevention is equal to a pound of cure.’ Counseling comes in multiple ways depending on the nature of the problem. Individual counseling encompasses any and all day to day stressors. The therapist’s primary focus is to meet each client where they are and work with them to address immediate as well as long-term needs.
